Mission:

Our mission is to broaden the educational and professional horizons for women around the world so that they can better pursue their dreams and contribute equally to the growth and  development of our society.

Vision:

We believe that access to primary education will help women address challenges pertaining to economic prosperity, physical security, healthcare, and social equality. Our initial focus will be women in Afghanistan, but we reserve the prospects to broaden our influence to other developing countries with time. We believe that educated women will prove to be the key ingredient in the revitalization of the underdeveloped world.

Who we are:

Women Empowerment Through Education (WETE) is a Toronto-based non-profit organization that provides educational opportunities for women in poor communities. Our institution targets smaller villages all across the globe since these communities often lack the basic resources needed to operate schools, academies, or other educational facilities.

Registration Status:

WETE is a registered Non-Profit organization in Canada. Our mission is to increase literacy among women in Afghanistan. We believe that Afghan women can better address the poverty and violence that limit their lives if they first gain access to a broader world of ideas. Registration Number: 768964462RR0001

Our beginning:

Our institution was established in 2021 after the death of Shahnaz, a hardworking and ambitious journalist from Jalalabad, Afghanistan who was shot and killed in the middle of the day on an open street. Shahnaz was passionate about her job, she had the drive to pursue her dreams, and she advocated for women empowerment in the workplace. The assailant who gunned down and killed Shahnaz targeted her because of these values.

The Problem:

Afghan women are often expected to maintain the household rather than spending time at school. This tenet strenuously inhibits the nation’s ability to prosper. Data from the World Bank estimates that the literacy rate for women in Afghanistan encompasses less than 30% of the total population. Without addressing this issue, the Afghan society will never be able to ascend from destitution and develop past indigence.

The Solution:

To live by Shahnaz’ example, and to provide a legacy for her passion, we are currently raising $50,000 to establish a fully operational educational facility in Jalalabad, Afghanistan. Over the next few years, we hope to successfully operate and manage this educational facility via a remote corporate team headquartered in Toronto, Canada, and via an on-site management team located in Jalalabad, Afghanistan.

Unlike most educational facilities, we plan to compensate our students with monthly salaries so that they can help financially support their households. We believe this will help incentivise the surrounding community to support our operations while the students receive their primary education. With time, we plan to acculturate this business model to other developing regions of the world and provide even greater access to primary education across the globe.
